The carnival of blacks & whites is celebrated at the beginning of every year in Colombia from January 2nd to January 7th.
It was declared by the UNESCO, "as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity."
The carnival originated during a period of time where Colombian population needed to express joy and imagination but overall expose, forgive and eradicate racism. At first, it was hard but eventually the repeating slogan: "¡Que Vivan Los Negros y Que Vivan Los Blancos!" (Hurray the Blacks and Hurray the Whites!) has been heard every year since 1912 in the streets of Pasto (A city in western Colombia).
For Kafetero family this carnival although Colombian should be celebrated everywhere in the world today. To accept and admire our differences, all our colours, shapes, textures, cultures and those features that make each of us unique and beautiful.
Together, let's forgive the harsh past, to welcome and celebrate our planetary variety. Planet Earth as the garden is meant to be!
